LocumForce

Overview

LocumForce is a two-sided marketplace that connects locum healthcare professionals with the organisations that need to fill a shift. One application serves both sides: a locum browses and applies for work, tracks their shifts and gets paid, while a hospital or clinic posts jobs, shortlists candidates, watches the shift happen and settles the invoice.

It is a production application, live on the App Store and Google Play, built in React Native 0.77 and TypeScript.

The Challenge

Healthcare staffing is a high-trust industry, and the parts that matter are exactly the parts that are hard to build:

• Two audiences with different jobs to do, inside one binary
• Proof that the person who was hired actually attended the shift
• Credentials and compliance documents that expire and must be tracked
• Money that moves to individuals rather than to a single merchant
• Conversations that need to happen before a shift, not after it
• Work that happens on hospital wifi, or on no signal at all

Solution

The application is organised around role rather than around screens. A locum and an organisation authenticate the same way and then land in different navigation stacks, each with its own tab set, permissions and data scope.

AI Job Matching

Google Gemini sits behind both sides of the match. A locum sees the roles that actually fit their specialism, rate and availability rather than a reverse-chronological list, and an organisation sees ranked candidates for a posting instead of an unsorted pile of applications. The matching runs on the same profile and compliance data the rest of the app already holds, so a recommendation is never based on a stale profile.

Live Shift Tracking

Attendance is the part of staffing that gets disputed, so it is evidenced. Check-in is GPS-verified against the site location, an on-site timer runs for the duration of the shift, and the organisation watches the shift progress on a map in real time. What comes out the other end is a timesheet neither side has to take on trust.

Real-Time Communication

Employers and professionals talk over a Socket.IO channel, so questions about a shift are settled before it starts. Push notifications through OneSignal and Firebase Cloud Messaging cover everything that happens when the app is closed: a new matching job, an application update, a shift about to start, a payment released.

Payments

Stripe Connect handles the money, because the platform pays individual professionals rather than taking payment for itself. Onboarding, invoicing and payouts run through Connect accounts, which keeps compliance for each professional's payout details with Stripe rather than inside the application.

Compliance

Certifications, licences and right-to-work documents are uploaded, tracked and surfaced against each professional's profile, so an organisation can see what is current before shortlisting rather than discovering an expired document on the day of the shift.
