Bravo Life

Self-Development & Habit-Building App

A cross-platform self-development app built around a short daily loop: curated actions, a belief card, a journal prompt, a streak to protect, and a community feed of wins. Firebase carries auth, data and analytics, Cloud Functions schedule timezone-aware reminders, and CodePush ships fixes the day they land rather than after store review.

(01) — the build

Overview

The Bravo Life: Delulu Sprint is a cross-platform mobile app for personal growth. It turns self-development into a daily sprint: curated actions to work through, a belief card to reframe the day, a journal prompt to answer, a streak to keep alive, and a community feed where people post the wins they have manifested.

The app shipped to both the App Store and Google Play, and is live today with a 4.9 star rating on the App Store. The work covered the entire mobile application and its Firebase backend.

The Challenge

Habit apps fail in the gap between intention and repetition. The product problem was retention rather than features: someone has to want to open the app tomorrow.

That set the engineering priorities:

  • Reach the user at the right moment, in their own timezone
  • Make progress visible enough to be worth protecting
  • Give the work a social witness rather than a private checkbox
  • Keep the daily loop fast enough to finish before attention runs out
  • Ship fixes to a habit streak in hours, not in a review queue

Solution

The daily loop is short by design and every part of it is one tap deep.

  • Daily affirmations and belief-shift cards
  • Guided journaling with reflection prompts
  • Habit tracker with streak monitoring and milestone celebrations
  • Community feed for sharing wins, commenting and earning badges
  • Swipeable motivational content discovery
  • Premium lessons and exclusive content through in-app subscriptions
  • Smart push notifications and personalised reminders
  • Social authentication with Google, Apple and email
  • Multilingual support
  • Privacy controls including ATT consent and user preferences
  • Over-the-air updates that ship without an App Store release

My Contributions

  • Built the complete cross-platform mobile application in React Native and TypeScript
  • Integrated Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, Analytics and Storage
  • Built the habit tracking, streak, journaling, affirmation and community modules
  • Implemented real-time social features: posts, replies, reactions, badges and notifications
  • Developed the premium subscription flow on in-app purchases
  • Implemented scheduled and event-driven notification systems in Cloud Functions
  • Added localisation and the onboarding experience
  • Integrated over-the-air updates through CodePush and RevoPush
  • Optimised performance, navigation and state management for production

Notification Scheduling

Reminders are the product, not a nicety, so they are scheduled server side in Cloud Functions rather than left to the device. Each user's local time is what matters, which makes the scheduler timezone-aware by default: a nudge lands in the user's morning wherever they are, and streak warnings fire against their day boundary rather than the server's.

Real-Time Community

The wins feed is the social witness the habit loop needs. Posts, replies, reactions and badges are backed by Firestore, so a win posted on one device appears on another without a refresh, and the notification that follows is fired from a Cloud Function rather than from the client that wrote the document.

Release Pipeline

Subscription and streak bugs are the expensive kind, because both break trust the day they appear. CodePush and RevoPush carry JavaScript changes straight to installed apps, so a fix reaches users the day it lands instead of waiting on store review, and store submissions are kept for changes that genuinely need native code.

Tech Stack

  • Mobile: React Native, TypeScript, React Navigation
  • Backend: Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions
  • Messaging: Firebase Cloud Messaging, Notifee
  • Payments: React Native IAP, auto-renewable subscriptions
  • Identity: Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, email
  • Analytics: Firebase Analytics
  • Storage: Firebase Storage
  • Delivery: CodePush, RevoPush over-the-air updates

Highlights

  • Cross-platform production application on iOS and Android
  • Serverless Firebase backend with no server to operate
  • Real-time community interactions
  • Subscription-based premium content
  • Gamified habit and streak tracking
  • Timezone-aware automated notification scheduling
  • Over-the-air update pipeline for rapid releases
  • Internationalised application supporting multiple languages

The Result

A shipped consumer product rather than a prototype: live on both stores, rated 4.9 on the App Store, carrying real subscriptions, a real community feed, and a release pipeline that can fix a broken streak the same day it is reported.
